BUILDING PEOPLE NOT FIGHTERS
A practical parenting guide to help discover and nurture your child’s true potential
MASTER PAUL MITCHELL
Thank you for making the time to visit my website. It is good to know that other people have a similar outlook when it comes to discovering and nurturing a child’s true potential. With over one million recorded bullying incidents every week in our school system, we need to give our children the tools to deal with the daily conflicts of their schooling years.
If I could sum up what I do in one sentence – I inspire people to help others. I hold nothing back and share over 40 years of knowledge and experience Building People Not Fighters™. With all the senseless violence in our world, I thought the world could be a better place with more respectful and resilient children that want to give back to society in a meaningful way. What a wonderful place that would be!
I hope the ideas in this book will inspire you to challenge yourself, learn something new, become confident in your chosen field, see greatness within others and share your knowledge and experience for the purpose of nurturing your child’s true potential. I believe there is greatness inside everyone: you just need the right person to help you find it and support you on your way to achieving your dreams. Looking forward to helping you give your child a brighter future.
I understand that no book has been written with all the answers to every problem that we encounter, as our lives are a journey of discovery. As you travel through this book, you will be starting your journey before children attend school and before they start high school. It’s important to start early, if you can, to allow time to build your child up so they can stand strong against adversity, understand the value in working with others and develop friendships that stand the test of time.
I wish I knew earlier what I know now. I hope that, by sharing my life lessons in this book, you will have a better understanding of how you can raise your children not just to survive, but to thrive – and do so with passion, compassion, generosity, positivity, humour, confidence and an incredible sense of belonging.
Building People Not Fighters can be read three different ways depending on your preference – which is possibly different to other books you have read.
Read from cover to cover to get new ideas to help your child through various stages of development.
Go to Part 10 where you will be able to get a quick understanding of issues that hold children back. From here you will get directed to further information in the book or to a story of hope, where martial arts has changed a child’s life.
Go to Part 11 where you will have two paths to choose from. One for preschool and one for primary school. This will take you on the path to finding your child’s true potential and help you prepare your child for the daily challenges of school.
30 days of daily wisdom and advice from Master Paul
Master Paul Mitchell is an inspirational leader who founded United Taekwondo with the purpose of Building People Not Fighters. His journey started in 1978 when he first joined a local taekwondo club down the road from where he lived. Through the guidance and support of his instructor and closest friend Cliff Leader, he has taken taekwondo to a new level – but not before he hit rock bottom.
In 2006, after 27 years’ dedication to one martial arts style and being promoted to regional instructor overseeing nine locations with 300 members, he was handed a letter from his then Master Instructor that said, ‘You are nothing to me’ and kicked out of taekwondo. At the same time, he did not get a well-deserved promotion at work and his mum passed away after suffering dementia for eight years. In the end he was left with one centre and 30 members. To him, that was his rock bottom. But rock bottom can be a great foundation for rebuilding yourself. Before his father passed away in 1994, he left him with some powerful words:
‘Life may test you, challenge you, shake you or break you, but how strong you stand will make you. Always stand strong.’
I will donate $10 to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation from all direct purchases of my book.
There so many self-help books that end up being shelf-help. These books focus on personal development of the reader. They have their place, but I wanted to write a book where we awaken the reader to the hidden benefits of helping someone achieve more than they have ever imagined. The other person may be left with all the medals, certificates and awards, but I want the reader to understand that the personal rewards for helping someone else achieve their dreams are enduring and priceless in comparison.
